Keno’s History

Keno was created in two hundred BC by the Chinese military commander, Cheung Leung who utilized this game as a monetary resource for his declining army. The city of Cheung was at war, and after some time seemed to be looking at a country wide shortage of food with the excessive drop in supplies. Cheung Leung needed to create a fast response for the economic adversity and to create money for his army. He therefore created the game we now know as keno and it was a fantastic success.

Keno was well-known as the White Pigeon Game, seeing as the winning numbers were broadcast by pigeons from bigger municipalities to the tinier towns. The lottery ‘Keno’ was brought to the United States in the 19th century by Chinese immigrants who came to the United States for work. In those times, Keno was played with one hundred and twenty numbers.
