Keno was introduced in two hundred BC by the Chinese army commander, Cheung Leung who utilized keno as a way to finance his declining army. The city of Cheung was at war, and after a bit of war time seemed to be facing national shortage of food with the dramatic decrease in supplies. Cheung Leung had to come up with a quick response for the financial adversity and to acquire income for his forces. He, as it follows created the game we now know as keno and it was a great success.
Keno used to be well-known as the White Pigeon Game, because the winning numbers were delivered by pigeons from bigger cities to the smaller villages. The lottery ‘Keno’ was imported to the US in the 1800s by Chinese expatriates who headed to the US for jobs. In those times, Keno was played with 120 numbers.
Today, Keno is most often bet on with just 80 numbers in most of American brick and mortar casinos along with online casinos. Keno is mainly played today because of the laid back nature of gambling the game and the basic fact that there are little skills required to enjoy Keno. Regardless of the fact that the odds of getting a win are horrible, there is always the possibility that you will win quite large with a tiny gaming investment.
Keno is played with 80 numbers with twenty numbers drawn each game. Gamblers of Keno can pick from two to ten numbers and wager on them, as much or as little as they are able to. The payout of Keno is according to the bets made and the matching of numbers.
Keno has grown in popularity in the US since the end of the 19th century when the Chinese characters were changed with more familiar, American numbers. Lottos were not covered under the laws of wagering in the state of Nevada in Nineteen Thirty One. The casinos changed the name of the ‘Chinese lotto’ to ‘horse race keno’ employing the notion that the numbers are horses and you are wanting your horses to place. When the Nevada government passed a law that taxed off track wagering, casinos quickly changed the name to ‘Keno’.
